Unlike a regular curl, any use of momentum, leg drive or back engagement is strictly forbidden. This is the gold standard of arm strength.
All World Strongman Strict Curl competitions run under a single regulation, ensuring uniform judging and record keeping worldwide.
The athlete must keep constant contact with the vertical support: upper back (shoulder blades) and glutes pressed to the wall throughout the lift.
Heels must be no more than 12 inches (30 cm) from the support. Any movement or sliding of the feet during the lift disqualifies the attempt.
Athletes must wait for the “CURL” command to start. After locking the bar at the top (chin/throat level), wait for the “DOWN” command to lower the weight.
The lift must be one continuous movement. Any pause, double bounce or downward travel after the start results in a “No Lift”.
Note: elbow/bench sleeves and bench shirts are banned under WSM standards. Only standard wrist wraps and a belt are allowed.
Competitions are split by body weight and age bracket to keep matchups fair. Weigh-ins take place either 24 hours or 2 hours before the event.
